BRADENTON – The Bradenton Marauders, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, are pleased to announce Gina Fielding as the team’s recipient of the Florida State League Scholarship. Fielding will receive $1,000 from the league to further her education.
The league awarded scholarships to one employee, or the child or grandchild of an employee of an FSL club who is at least a high school junior by the 2011 fall semester. The award is based both on financial need and grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Fielding is in her first season as a Concessions Supervisor with the Marauders. She has a 4.0 GPA as a student at the State College of Florida. She is looking forward to being able to transfer to the University of South Florida next fall and major in business management.
”This program is one of the best things we do in the league and I congratulate the Directors and General Managers on their dedication and enthusiasm in administering this program,“ said FSL President Chuck Murphy in a league release. ”The purpose of the program is to send a message that an education is key to success in life.“
The Florida Marlins have sponsored this program for 12 years and have contributed a total of $112,500. The scholarship winners were all guests of the Florida Marlins during a pre-game ceremony this past Sunday, August 14 at SunLife Stadium.
