Gladiators Shutout Millionaires 42-0 at PAL Bowl Saturday Night to Stay Unbeaten

Posted

MANATEE--The Gladiators are on a roll. Saturday night’s 42-0 blanking of the Sarasota Millionaires at the PAL Bowl was Bradenton’s seventh consecutive win of the season to remain one of three undefeated teams in the Florida Football Alliance after seven games.

Former Manatee Hurricane Jeff Charlton caught a 62 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Nick Kirby and returned a punt 88 yards for another score to pace the high-powered Gladiator offense.

Kirby threw three touchdown passes going 9 of 17 for 247 yards in the game. Running back Chauncey Jones scored twice on the ground for the Gladiators. Bradenton’s defense recorded its fourth shutout of the 2011 season. The anemic Millionaire offense managed just 123 yards of total offense and had three turnovers in the game. Sarasota has scored just 39 points in seven games.

The Sarasota Millionaires fall to 0-7 in a disastrous year on the field for the perennial playoff team. Team owner Calvin Williams, who once played for the Bradenton Gladiators, suited up for the cross-county rivalry game Saturday night and rushed for 36 yards on 15 carries.

Bradenton will travel to Belle Glade next Saturday to face the Muck City Stars. Sarasota will host the Florida Crusaders at Booker High School.
