Governor's Race Expected to Come Down to Wire

Posted

BRADENTON — Governor Rick Scott and former governor Charlie Crist are expected to come down to the wire in today's election. Pollsters say that the race is too close to call and that it might take until Wednesday morning or later for an official result to be determined.

Crist has been leading in polls, winning every major poll conducted over the last week that didn't result in a draw, though all but two (Survey USA and Zogby) were within the margin of error.

With around six million votes expected, a close result could end up mired down in recounts, disputes over ballots and even lawsuits between the campaigns.

Libertarian candidate Adrian Wyllie has been polling in the high single digits and his performance could have a major impact on the final result.

Crist has been consistently polling above Scott with independents, which might be the deciding demographic.

Republicans have turned out at higher rates in early and absentee voting so far. However, Democrats, whose turnout has historically leaned toward Election Day, have been pleased to see their rates improve significantly in those two areas.

Conventional wisdom says that the ultimate result hinge son how well Crist turns out the Democratic vote today.

Polls are open until 7 a.m. Tune into www.thebradentontimes.com Wednesday morning for full election coverage.
