Irene C. Crotty, age 84, of Bradenton, passed away January 28, 2023, at home surrounded by her loved ones after a courageous battle with cancer.

Irene was born on February 5, 1938, in Manhattan, New York to the late Helen and Charles W. Maine. She was raised in the Hell’s Kitchen section of Manhattan. In 1968, she married the love of her life and the father of her children. Soon later in 1972, they moved to Middletown, N.J. where they raised their family of six children in a home that was always open and welcome to family and friends. More often than not, you could always find a neighborhood worth of children playing on the front lawn.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband and soulmate of 55 years, Joseph W. Crotty and her brother Charles Maine and his wife Elizabeth. She is survived by her six children, son Joseph Crotty of Keansburg, N.J.; daughter Cassie Schroeder and husband, Edward of Hazlet, N.J.; Kim Crotty-Franco and husband Albert of Ridgewood, N.J.; daughter Coreen Lukacs and husband Erik of Wendell, N.C.; son Charles Crotty and wife Kristen of Morganville, N.J.; and daughter Colleen Doubek of Raleigh, N.C.; her ten grandchildren Alexandra, Taylor, Edward, Charles, Nickolas, Sarrah, Daphne, Abigail, Madilyn, and Avery; her brother John "Butch“ Maine and wife Lorraine of Englishtown, N.J.; brother Donald Maine and wife Anne of Staten Island, N.Y.; sister and best-friend Mary Ellen Maine of Bradenton, FL; and sister-in-law Irene Halczak of Bradenton, FL; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Irene was an avid sports fan following the Redskins, the Rangers, and the Yankees. Through her love of sports, she was spirited and supportive to all her children in their activities. She loved her trips to the casino with her friends and sister, but she loved nothing more than being a mother and grandmama to her children and grandchildren. She often played the roles of homemaker, taxi driver, cheerleader, advocate to her children, and adored spoiling her grandchildren. She enjoyed her free time playing bingo, playing cards, doing jigsaw puzzles, reading, and traveling.

After growing her family, in 2000 moved to Lakewood, N.J. and several years later in 2009 to Bradenton, FL. After losing the love of her life in 2011, she spent her time with "The Golden Girls" working and laughing their way through the remaining chapters of her life.

Irene was the epitome of matriarchy. Not only supportive, guiding, and loving to a fault, but always accepting when it mattered the most. Her love knew no bounds. Her passing leaves behind a tremendous hole in the hearts of her family and friends, filled only by the unwavering love, joy, and support she instilled throughout her lifetime.

A celebration of life will be held at a later time in New Jersey. Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory, 26th Street Chapel, 5624 26th Street West Bradenton, FL 34207 is in charge of the arrangements.
