James Arthur Griswold (Jim), 82, of Bradenton, FL, died October 10, 2024, at Lakewood Ranch Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, FL.
Born in Northampton, MA on March 29, 1942, son of Edward F. Griswold and Esther Luddy Tilton, he attended Amherst, Whately, and South Deerfield schools. He graduated from Northampton Commercial College in 1967 and North Adams State College in 1985.
He started work in healthcare in Pittsfield, MA at the old St. Luke's Hospital which became Berkshire Medical Center. While there, he served as President of the Berkshire Healthcare Federal Credit Union. He worked as the Controller of Leominster Hospital, Clinton Hospital, and Bethany Health Care Center (SSJ) in Framingham. He also worked for Baptist Hospital in Boston and retired from healthcare in 2015 while working at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester, MA.
He was a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association since 1975 where he served on numerous state and national committees. He was Treasurer on the board of trustees for both the Forest Hills Condo Assoc. in No. Grafton, MA, and Peridia Patio II Condo Assoc. in Bradenton, FL.
Jim was especially proud of his heritage. His father along with his brother, sisters and mother, were the last family to move out of Prescott, MA - unwillingly - to make way for the Quabbin Reservoir. The Griswold homesite in former Prescott, which was never flooded, has been the site of many family reunions in the fall of each year. James Edward Griswold, his son, and his grandson, Tristan James Griswold, are the last in this bloodline to bear the name.
Jim enjoyed woodworking, golfing, reading, surfing the net, watching the Celtics, and playing poker with his friends. He was president of the MedCity Golf League in Worcester, MA for a number of years.
He leaves his wife, the former Constance Ann Pelletier, whom he married on May 1, 1981; two sons, James E. Griswold of Long Beach, CA and Marcus J. Del Greco of Alton, NH, and three grandchildren, Abigail Del Greco, Marco Del Greco, and Tristan Griswold. He leaves his sister, Judith Rennie and her husband Rev. Bob Rennie of Pittsfield. He was predeceased by his three sisters, Mary Shumway, Marguerite Harrington, and Diane Verheyen.
A Graveside Service and Burial will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery, Pittsfield, MA at the convenience of the family.
