ST. PETERSBURG -- Remember the days when a simple push of the remote button would allow you to watch music videos, live concerts and artist interviews on MTV? Those days are over. While the network lends itself to reality shows like Jersey Shore and Teen Mom, music lovers are left searching YouTube for new artists or purchasing videos on ITunes. However, a new local venue is about to change the way we view music entertainment. Instead of spending time looking for it on the internet, music lovers will receive a steady stream of videos on their TV once again but this time, they can even be part of it.
Jannus Live, previously Jannus Landing, is a popular outdoor concert venue in St. Petersburg. It is developing a new On-Demand cable network. For the past 25 years, the Jannus courtyard has hosted a multitude of concerts. Now they will be recording their performances for posterity. Viewers can see rare backstage interviews and behind the scenes moments.
Jannus Live TV Music Videos On-Demand will feature music videos from emerging artists from all varieties of music like alternative rock, country and hip hop, jiust to name a few. Viewers have the option of purchasing the music 24 hours a day directly from their cable box. Not only can they view HD live performances recorded in house , but they can also watch comedy skits, action sports, independent music videos and short films created around the world.
The station is currently looking for fresh faces to host their programming with a casting call Saturday April 9, 2011 from 10 a.m. – 4p.m.
”On-camera experience is a plus, but is not necessary,“ said Adam Simons, marketing and production manager, ”However, you must have an ability to present great content coherently with your own unique flair. We are looking for people who have a special interest in one or more of the following: Music Videos; Comedy; Short Films; Actions Sports.“
During the interview, each candidate will be provided with a brief script and the chance to audition on camera, so they are insturcted to arrive with hair, makeup and wardrobe ready. Auditions will be held on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Local bands, producers of short films and sports action videos can submit their own music videos to be a part of the television experience.
Jannus Landing was renamed Jannus Live and re-opened in late March, 2010 by businessman Jeff Knight, who came with experience in the cable and nightclub/restaurant businesses. The open-air venue dates back to the mid 1980s, when a handful of small promoters got the idea to stage reggae and punk rock shows in a courtyard that was encased in a downtown block of St. Petersburg.
Jannus Landing quickly became a hot spot for all manner of acts, but especially up-and-coming artists, cult favorites and underground legends. From Pearl Jam’s unforgettable local debut to those of African juju artist King Sunny Ade, Neville Brothers, Radiohead, and scores of others, the venue has made more than its share of history.
Jannus flourished through the 1990s and most of the start of the century, but as that decade grew to a close, management of the site had grown disorganized, programming turned inconsistent and in late 2009 Jannus Landing closed its gates.Knight revamped the venue adding new amenities like indoor plumbing, but still preserved the rustic charm of the landmark. He hired a team of talented professionals to restore the venue back to, and beyond, its former glory.
