John Douglas Stewart, known to all as Doug, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family. Born October 17, 1935, in Rochester, New York, to Cecil Stewart and Evelyn Mackay Stewart, Doug lived a life filled with dedication, service, and unwavering family devotion.

After graduating from The Harley School in Rochester, Doug proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1954 to 1958, serving aboard the USS Wisconsin BB64. His time in the Navy instilled in him a deep sense of patriotism and responsibility that remained with him throughout his life.

Following his naval service, Doug graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1961, where he met the love of his life, Janet. They were married on August 26, 1961, and enjoyed over 63 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures. Together they raised their family, instilling in their son, Jim, and daughter, Gwenn, the same values of integrity and compassion that defined Doug's life.
Beyond his family, Doug had a passion for golf, and he enjoyed cheering on his beloved Washington Redskins football team, Washington Capitals hockey team, and was a Fox News enthusiast.

Doug is survived by his loving wife, Janet; his son, Jim and wife Alicia; his daughter, Gwenn; his sister Bonnie and husband Chris; and his sister Sheila and husband Tom, and countless nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by his brother, Bruce, and wife Mary.

Doug will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His kind heart, unwavering strength, and gentle spirit will forever remain in our hearts.

A memorial service celebrating Doug's life will be held on January 15th, 2025, at the Sarasota National Cemetery: 9810 State Rd 72, Sarasota, FL 34241.
