JUPITER – The Jupiter Hammerheads (10-13) scored four times in the first inning and never trailed while winning 6-3 over the
Bradenton Marauders (10-13) on Saturday night at Roger Dean Stadium. Jupiter’s Michael Mader (W, 1-0) fired five scoreless innings for his first win.
The first three Jupiter batters of the game hit safely against RHP Colten Brewer (L, 1-4). A bases loaded walk, a run scoring ground out, and a two-run error with two outs in the inning provided Jupiter a 4-0 lead. Brewer settled in and struck out three over five innings while not allowing another hit.
Bradenton broke through in the seventh on SS Kevin Newman’s first home run of the season. His three-run blast off Jeff Kinley trimmed the Jupiter lead to 4-3, but the Hammerheads had a quick answer.
RHP Edgar Santana ran his scoreless streak to 17 1/3 innings with a scoreless sixth, but in the seventh his first walk of the year helped spur a two-run Jupiter rally.
The Marauders lost despite outhitting the Hammerheads 12-6.
