Mercedes Movilla of Lakewood Ranch won $1000 for naming the sports facility. Michael Muscarella of Sarasota took home $2000 for his logo design. Nearly 500 entries were received from around the United States according to Tim Mulqueen, Lakewood Ranch’s director of sports. ”We feel the name and logo represent the high quality of the complex while staying consistent with the Lakewood Ranch theme“, he said.
Premiere Sports Campus officially opens on April 1 and is a multi-purpose facility that will have 22 full-sized, mixed use fields for soccer, lacrosse and other amateur sports. The first event scheduled is the Florida Youth Soccer Association tournament beginning April 30 with sixty-four teams expected to attend.
Other events include soccer goalkeeper clinics and an academy put on by U.S. Soccer team goalkeeper Tim Howard. The Clearwater Chargers soccer program has also booked the facility to expand its program including tournaments and leagues.
”Teams are already beginning to line up to come here and once this campus is up and running, we estimate the economic impact to the Sarasota and Manatee County region to be hundreds of millions of dollars each and every year“, said Manatee County Sports Commissioner Joe Pickett.
