BRADENTON — At a special meeting Wednesday, the Bradenton City Council voted to approve a resolution that declared support for a local construction company to receive requested grant funds, to build a new project for the city-owned Twin Dolphin Marina. The grant would come from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission if approved.

Miller Development, which leases the marina, is seeking the funds to help cover costs for replacing boat docks and other amenities. The city and company have advised that more docks and boat slips have been needed because of increasing residential waterfront development, and that some of the marina's facilities and docks need replacement due to wear and tear.
The total estimated cost for the project is $1,271,919, which Miller would cover at no cost to taxpayers, and would replace the marina's C Dock. The requested boating infrastructure grant is $399,000; with the resolution's approval, the company's project manager, Hugh D. Miller, is authorized by the city to apply for the grant on behalf of the city.
The resolution was approved 4-0; Councilman Bemis Smith was not in attendance. The full resolution can be viewed here.
