Local Government D. Gene Brown Enters City Council Race

BRADENTON – Last Friday, D. Gene Brown announced his candidacy for the Bradenton City Council Ward 2 race. Mr. Brown is Chief Operating Officer of Brown and Sons Funeral Home, which has been in Bradenton for nearly four decades.

Brown is the second candidate to announce his intention to run for the seat being vacated by Marianne Barnebey, who will give up the District 2 seat to run for Mayor. Manatee County Planning Commissioner George Mendez also entered the race recently.

Brown is a 1985 graduate of Bayshore High who got his A.S. from Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Services in Atlanta in 1989, after earning an earlier associates degree at Manatee Community College. Brown has a long history of public service, including more than two decades of high-level involvement with the Boys and Girls Club, as well as being former Chairman of the Bradenton Police Pension Board and President of the Jessie P. Miller Elementary PTO.
