This state funded, independently operated tuition free school came looking for it final approval. The school is located on the east side of U.S. 301 and west side of 30th Street East, approximately 1,809 feet south of 38th Avenue East, and 393 feet south of the proposed 44th Avenue East, at 4550 30th Street East, Bradenton. Stephanie Moreland, planner found all codes had been met. Commissioners concerns about no sidewalk being on the west side of 30th. Street East, weren't eager to accept the wait and see as we go attitude the applicant suggested. To start, the first year will only have K -- 6th grade, second year, they will add 7th. Third year the school will add 8th grade, and then if busses are a part of the picture and funding they will add a sidewalk. With a proper school crossing on the east side of 30th, and a safety light and attendant, they predict all will be fine. -- Approved, Unanimous.

46. Legislative Update -- Nicholas Azzara gave the legislative update. Winners in the $70 billion budget -- MCI Workforce Education Fund -- Beaches ($27 million). Then there were the ones that took a hit -- mental health -- water districts -- local business tax failed -- pre-trial release didn't come up -- and Commissioner Michael Gallen's "school ground facilities" passed through the house but didn't get heard by the senate.

The big story was the Medicare bill that puts counties on the hook for uncollected amounts fron past years, even though Senator Bennett fought to stop it. The amount it could possibly cost the county is $4.4 million. Manatee County is preparing a letter challenging the legitimacy of the accounting. (Story this week)

It is just too dangerous for golf carts to ride in the road. -- Commissioner Hayes, Put the golf cart question to the MPO. -- Commissioner DiSabatino, "Calling into Question" takes two thirds of a vote, not a majority. In our case 5 to 2. Thanks everyone for the help saving "Bridges." (Everyone thanked DiSabatino for championing it to victory).
