A rezoning of approximately 645.9 acres located on the east side of the Wingate Creek Mine, south of Duette Preserve, west of Duette Road, and north of SR 64, in Duette from the A (General Agriculture) to the EX (Extraction) zoning district; setting forth findings; providing a legal description; providing for severability; and providing an effective date. 

6. RESOLUTION R-12-01 – MOSAIC FERTILIZER, LLC – WINGATE EXTENSION Quasi-Judicial

Robert Brown, Environmental Protection Manager

A Resolution of the Board of County Commissioners of Manatee County, Florida, granting Mosaic Fertilizer, LLC a master mining plan for a Wingate Extension of 661acres. 

An approval would authorize mining operations, until  December 31, 2023. 

There was huge opposition by many local and environmental groups who were trying to protect they're water, air and property values. With a room full of Mosaic representatives and even more Specialized Professionals and Citizens, the day was full of testimony. In the end Mosaic was feeling the pressure and asked for a continuance. Vote to continue  to March 1, 2012, -- Appoved, 5 to 2, Whitmore and Hayes dessent. (FULL STORY)

(Continued from August 4, September 1, October 6, November 3, and December 1, 2011) Parrish residents returned for their sixth and final waltz with commissioners. Six was the magic number, their sixth trip and commissioners voted to restrict the Springfield development to six homes and each lot has to be at least one acre. -- Approved, 4 to 3, Hayes, Chappie and Whitmore, dissent.
