PALMETTO — At Monday's Palmetto City Commission meeting, members voted to conceptually approve the 2016 Riverwalk Regatta Boat Races that proved to be unsuccessful for the city back in February of this year. In other business, members approved Ordinance 2015-05 regulating liquidation and garage/yard sales in the city.

Chief Tyler -- "I am very very proud of officer Lucciano Diaz for winning the prestigious 'Manatee 100 Award.' I have a lot to feel good about, this is one of the better ones."
Jim Freeman, City Clerk -- said staff started work on next year's budget. We'll get a look first week in July.
10. MAYOR’S REPORT -- Mayor Bryant -- "I received a letter from the BOCC about negotiations on the hotel. They are bringing in their 'financial advisor' to negotiate." The Mayor also had the City Attorney, Mark Barnebey, speak about some ideas on a 'parking ordinance'.
11. COMMISSIONERS’ COMMENTS --
Williams -- "I attended a Speech Contest, where there were nine elementary school students competing. They were really something, and humdinger speeches. They were so passionate."
Varnadore -- "I too want to congratulate officer Diaz, what an honor." Varnador also said she wasn't for the 'option payment program' in a parking ordinance.
Davis -- "I got to attend the 'Project Healing Waters' fishing tournament. What a great time, and everyone very much enjoyed themselves. What a wonderful experience. You just get out on the water and all the troubles just seem to fade away. There is another one in November. I can't wait."
