PALMETTO — Mayor Shirley Grover Bryant and the City of Palmetto welcomed new police chief Scott Tyler at last night's city commission meeting.
Tyler was the deputy chief when Rick Wells gave his resignation in order to take the number two spot at the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

"I have big shoes to fill, and I am happy to serve the people of Palmetto," said Scott. "They are family, and I am looking forward to doing everything I can to keep us all safe. We are all really going to miss the chief, Rick."
Wells was in attendance, as was Manatee County Sheriff Brad Steube, along with chiefs from four other departments and Manatee County Commissioner Charles Smith, who previously served on the city commission.
Tyler was joined by his father David, brother Fredrick and girlfriend Leslie.
