Local news Industry Pushes for More Telemedicine Health Care in Florida

Posted

TAMPA – Policies to facilitate the promotion of telemedicine – the providing of health services to at-home patients in remote areas through the use of technology – is being planned by Florida legislators and some in the healthcare industry, including Nick Hernandez, CEO of Tampa's ABISA Health Care.

According to the company, the writing of policies that would help put telemedicine on the map as a more significant roleplayer in the delivery of health care services to Florida patients was discussed in sessions with Florida state representatives over a two-day period in Tallahassee during November.

Hernandez and representatives from health care institutions also met with Florida state representatives at the end of November.

In a press release, Hernandez said: “Under healthcare reform, we are expecting patients to be consumers,” adding, “to that end, telemedicine is a piece of the healthcare transformation. Telemedicine is not the future ... it is here now.”
