Local Seniors to be Honored During Academic Scholarship Event

Posted

BRADENTON – A collection of some of the most gifted and determined senior students in the Manatee County School District will receive special recognition when the district hosts its ”Academic Achievement Scholarship Signing Day“ on Thursday, May 12, 2011, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Bradenton Auditorium.

The purpose of this event is to recognize the outstanding academic achievement of the top 10% of high school seniors who have signed a letter of intent to accept a non-athletic, academic scholarship to a postsecondary educational institution.
”This is a tremendous way to honor students who have been stars in our classrooms,“ said Superintendent Dr. Tim McGonegal. ”These students embody and exemplify our EdVantage mission statement because they truly have Ôa passion for learning’ and they are definitely pursuing Ôtheir dreams confidently and creatively while contributing to our community, nation and world.’“

Superintendent McGonegal and School Board Chairman Bob Gause will be among the speakers to recognize the accomplishments of these distinguished students. In addition, some of the scholars will also speak about their journeys toward earning academic scholarships to post-secondary institutions.

This event is being sponsored and made possible by Fifth Third Bank. In addition, Anna Maria Oyster Bars will present 10 scholarship awards of $500 each to students determined that evening on a random basis.
