BRADENTON – At Tuesday's BOCC meeting, members voted to get an RFP on a "water park and hotel" behind Walmart, at I-75 and S.R. 64. In other business, they voted to do repeat a study on health care for the indigent in Manatee County.

40. Manatee County Aquatic and Recreation Complex * Eschenfelder – Approved, 5-2, Benac and Chappie dissent. The "water park" doesn't have a problem with the Comprehensive Plan, but the hotel, which needed to lodge those visiting, does. County staff says the hotel could be an accommodating accessory to the water park. Question was, 'what would the neighbor's say?' (More)

– Smith said, "There are some cities suing for not having affordable housing." Smith also spoke to "the illegal towing of cars," and how anyone who takes a cab home from a bar, because they don't want to drive home drunk, has until 12 noon the next day before the car can be towed. Smith said he would find out MCSO's records regarding what is happening here.
– Benac said that Katherine Edwards's concerns on the 'war on drugs' has other communities looking at diversion programs. Benac suggested the county explore ways to best serve not only those that are arrested but the county as well.
– Baugh said, she was dusted with the reporting coming from the press; but noted, "I know the Bradenton Herald sometimes misprints something, but they fix it right away, and the Tribune, it too is greatÉ but the other one, whose reporter is here, gets everything wrong."
