COMMISSIONER AGENDA

CITIZEN COMMENTS (Consideration for Future Agenda)

COMMISSIONER COMMENTS

Commissioner Bustle said the commission should make a DVD of Monday night's Land Development 101 workshop and make it available to the public to educate them.

Commissioner Smith said he wanted to meet with staff and commissioners on the problem of the towing of vehicles. Smith said if someone drinks too much and gets a lift or takes a cab home, leaving their car in the parking lot of the establishment to avoid driving drunk, tow-trucks tow their car. Smith made a motion to have a work session that rethinks the procedures for tow trucks. – Approved, Unanimous

Commissioner Benac said she is tired of people complaining to her about approving developments that cause the traffic jams. Benac said, "There is absolutely nothing we can do about it. It is the right of the property owner to do what they want with their property." Benac said that she and the others had nothing to do with the writing of the County's Comp Plan that gives them that right (although the commission often approves comp plan amendments that create exceptions to the approved comp plan for property owners).

– Commissioner DiSabatino said she was not happy about the way applicants use their entitlements to their property rights. She said special approvals aren't designed to be used to beef-up the profits an applicant makes off a project. "If they can't make it with the stipulations within the Comp Plan, we shouldn't change it to fit their expectations." DiSabatino said (referring to the special request on item #6, Oasis at University).

– Commissioner Chappie said some of the restaurants on the island aren't taking reservations because of the traffic jams people get stuck in.
