Manatee County Scheduled Construction Road Closings, week of April 25 -- Partial List

Haben Boulevard: From U.S. 301 to U.S. 41:  Construction project --- This project consists of milling and resurfacing Haben Boulevard, new signage and pavement markings, and the installation of new guardrail and sidewalk. There will be intermittent lane closures, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for various construction operations, weather permitting. Motorists are advised to use caution while in the area and to expect possible delays.  The contractor is AJAX Paving Industries of Florida, Inc.  Work is expected to complete in June, 2010.

Manatee County Advanced Traffic Management Syste (Phase One): Construction project --- The Manatee ATMS Phase 1 project is the first phase of a multi-phased deployment of state-of-the-art technologies for the mitigation of traffic congestion and the improvement of traffic operations and traffic management in Manatee County. Work under this contract includes the installation of traffic control/monitoring hardware and software, fiber optic cable, and ADA improvements. Approximately 143 signalized locations will be upgraded to the new system, along with new control and monitoring equipment located at the Manatee County Public Safety Center. Limited construction is underway with no traffic impacts. The Contractor is Highway Safety Devices, Inc.

I-75: From University Parkway to S.R. 70: Construction project --- This project consists of milling and resurfacing the roadway, shoulder treatment, guardrail, signing, pavement markings and signalization. Milling, resurfacing and pavement marking operations will take place from late March to mid July during nighttime hours.  Single lane closures will be in effect from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Double lane closures will be in effect from 10 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.  In order to complete these improvements, ramp closures at University Parkway and S.R. 70 interchanges will be necessary. Weather permitting, ramp closures will be in effect from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., April 20th through April 21st, 2010.   Detours will be in place at these two interstate interchanges directing the traveling public.

Motorists are advised to use caution and watch for construction workers in the construction zone.  Florida Highway Patrol officers will be assisting with traffic control in the work zone.  The contractor is Ajax Paving Industries of Florida, LLC.

I-75: At S.R. 70 (Exit 217): Construction project --- This project consists of adding new lane onto the southbound exit ramp and provide two right turn lanes onto westbound S.R. 70 providing a new signalized intersection.  Other improvements to the interchange include milling and resurfacing, installing new mast arm signal poles and storm sewer lines.  Work is scheduled to occur Monday through Friday 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Motorists are advised to use caution while in the area and to expect possible delays.  The Contractor is APAC-Southeast, Inc.

I-75: At the U.S. 301 Interchange (Exit #224): Construction project --- This project consists of widening the northbound I-75 exit ramp, constructing one additional left turn lane onto U.S. 301, widening the west approach on U.S. 301 to provide dual left turn lanes onto the southbound I–75 entrance ramp, widening the southbound entrance ramp to receive the dual left turn lanes and merging right turn lane, widening U.S. 301 on the east approach of 51st Avenue and 60th Avenue East to add one new thru lane and right turn lane.

Other improvements to the interchange include milling and resurfacing, installing new mast arm signal poles and storm sewer lines. Work is scheduled to take place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists are advised to use caution while in the area and to expect possible delays. The Contractor is APAC-Southeast, Inc.

U.S. 301/S.R. 43: North of 71st Street East to north of 77th Street in Parrish: Construction project --- This project consists of milling, resurfacing, signing and pavement marking improvements. Construction work on S.R. 62 may delay traffic traveling on U.S. 301 from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. through May 2010. Motorists are advised to expect possible delays and use caution while in the area. The Contractor is Superior Asphalt, Inc.

U.S. 301: 1st Street West at 13th Avenue West: Maintenance permit project ---The southbound outside lane of            1st Street West between 13th Avenue and 12th Avenue will have intermittent lane closures through Friday, April 30th, 2010 during the hours of 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Crews will be removing and pouring curb and gutter.  Motorists are advised to use caution and expect delays.

U.S. 41: At 17th Street East: Maintenance permit project --- The northbound and southbound lane of U.S. 41 in Palmetto will have intermittent lane closures from now through Friday, April 30th, 2010 beginning at 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.  Crews will be making intersection improvements.  Motorists are advised to use caution and expect delays.

U.S. 41: 8th Avenue W., between 10th Street W. and 14th Street W.: Maintenance permit project --- There will be intermittent southbound outside lane closures through Friday, April 30th, 2010 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. The contractor for FPL will be working on power pole lines. Motorists are advised to use caution and expect delays.

S.R. 70: From west of Myakka-Wauchula Road to east of Sugarbowl Road: Construction project --- Improvements under this contract consist of milling and resurfacing the roadway, shoulder treatment, drainage improvements, guardrail, signing and pavement markings, and signalization improvements at Myakka-Wauchula Road.

Traffic signal installation at Singletary/Myakka-Wauchula Road continues. Watch for workers and equipment near the roadway.  Occasional minor delays can be expected while crews replace span wires and signals. Daytime lane closures for paving are scheduled to begin April 19th, 2010.

Expect one-lane, two-way traffic with flaggers Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. through April  30th, 2010. The contractor is APAC Southeast, Inc. Motorists are advised to use caution while in the area and expect possible delays.

S.R. 62 and U.S. 301: From U.S. 301 to east of S.R. 37 in Parrish: Construction project --- This project consists of milling, resurfacing, drainage improvements, construction of new shoulders, pavement, driveway rehabilitation, guardrail, and signing and pavement marking improvements. Motorists can expect temporary daily lanes closures Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. through May 2010. Motorists are advised to use caution and expect delays during this period. The Contractor is Superior Asphalt, Inc.
