MANATEE–-The Manatee County Utilities Department received notification that the Governing Board of the Southwest Florida Water Management District voted Tuesday to enter into a Phase 1 Water Shortage Order for all 16 counties in the District’s boundaries, including Manatee County.
A ”Phase 1“ declaration means that conditions are drier than normal and warrants an alert to all utilities, customers and other water users. All water users should review their current uses and procedures and evaluate the potential of incorporating additional conservation measures. At this time watering days and times are not affected by this order but may be readdressed at a future date should the drought conditions continue or worsen.
The Utilities Department asks that all customers view this as a reminder that water conservation efforts should be long term habits and not just the short term actions mandated in response to periodic drought conditions in Southwest Florida. More details on the Phase 1 declaration and additional water conservation information can be found on the Manatee County Utilities’ website at www.mymanatee.org/utilities.
