Manatee Port Authority Agenda Results: March 17, 2016

PALMETTO – At Thursday's Port Authority meeting, members were delivered a brief presentation on the services that the Coast Guard Headquarters, stationed in St. Petersburg, provides to the communities in and around Tampa Bay. In other business, members voted to approve a Budget Resolution to include a two acre cargo pad that will be funded by FDOT and Gulf Coast Bulk Equipment.

2. Employee Recognition – Chuck Stieb (Town Courier) retired, and Shawn Smith (Director of Operations) was recognized for 10 years of service.
 
3. Presentation - George Isiminger, Port Manatee, – Berth 9 Reconstruction Update - Demolition of the old Berth 9 (cutting through the three feet of concrete) was the first phase, then a new wall beyond the location of the old wall will be built. The project is scheduled to be finished by the end of December 2016.
Berth 4, 5, 12 and 15. Will be treated with anodes to provide cathodic protection. Project should be finished by Christmas of 2017.
 
4. Presentation – Commander Randy Brown, Coast Guard, Sector St. Petersburg – Brown described the Coast Guard's responsibility as being Safety, Security and Stewardship. He said they conduct 75 rescues every month (higher than any of the other districts in the country), screen 185 vessels including an average of 4,200 crew and passengers, investigate spills, emission violations and safety prevention (life jackets and fire extinguishers) as well as protect the coast from drugs and immigrants.

Authority Members Comments – Commissioner Whitmore motioned to send a letter from the Port Director's office thanking FDOT on the road work (to date), on U.S. 41, at the entrance of the Port. – Approved, Unanimous
