BRADENTON – The League of Women Voters of Manatee County will host a program on homelessness on Monday, October 12, at the Bradenton Woman's Club.
The aim of the program is to highlight the issue of existing shelter capacity and to discuss potential remedies for the situation, according to LWV Manatee President Rosalie Shaffer.
For its 2014 Point-in-Time ("PIT")
survey, the Suncoast Partnership counted 1,069 homeless people in Manatee and 1,163 in Sarasota, a reported 8.7 percent increase over its 2013 PIT count for both counties together. For Manatee County, the survey advised that the number of homeless increased by 40 percent between 2011 and 2013, and by 8.7 percent between 2013 and 2014.
The Bradenton Woman's Club is located at 1705 Manatee Avenue West. The program will go from noon to 1 p.m., with doors opening at 11:30 a.m. for lunch and social. Lunch is to be provided for a $5 donation.
