Marauders Fall 3-0 to Cardinals

Posted
JUPITER – The Bradenton Marauders (6-8) had a three-game winning streak end on Wednesday night, falling 3-0 to the Palm Beach Cardinals (9-5) at Roger Dean Stadium. Austin Gomber (W, 2-1) pitched into the seventh and struck out five without a walk to get the Cardinals back in the win column.

RHP Yeudy Garcia made his best start of the season on the losing end of the duel. Garcia struck out one batter in each of the first six innings, but his fourth walk eventually came around to score the go-ahead run in the sixth. Garcia held the Cardinals to just three hits.

Garcia was lifted with men at the corners and one away in the sixth. RHP Sam Street got a first pitch pop fly from Blake Drake for the second out of the inning, but followed with a four pitch walk to Brian O’Keefe to put Palm Beach in front.

Nick Thompson followed with a two-RBI double to extend the lead to 3-0.

The Marauders let opportunities slip by on the base paths. DH Kevin Newman was thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double in the third. 3B Conner Joe led off the fourth with a single, but was doubled off on a shallow fly out to right field.

SS Pablo Reyes bunted for a hit in the fifth, but was thrown out trying to steal on the very next pitch. Rowan Wick collected four outs for the Cardinals out of the bullpen and Silfredo Garcia pitched for the second straight day to pick up his third save.
