BRADENTON - The Marauders (28-23) saw their five-game winning streak come to an end Tuesday night, as they fell to the Palm Beach Cardinals (25-27) by a final of 3-1.
The Cardinal struck first with an RBI ground-out by Allen Staton (0-for-4, RBI) to give them a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
The Marauders answered right back in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI ground-out by Jerrick Suiter (2-for-4, RBI).
The game remained tied until the top of the sixth when Orlando Olivera (2-for-4, HR, 2B) hit a solo home run to center field to give the Cardinals a 2-1 lead.
The Marauders had the tying run in scoring position with one out in the bottom of the eighth, but they were unable to score.
Steve Bean (1-for-4, HR) gave the Cardinals some insurance in the top of the ninth with a solo home run to right field to make the score 3-1.
The Marauders struggled against Cardinals RHP Matt Pearce (6-1), who entered tonight’s contest with the sixth-lowest ERA in the Florida State League. Pearce went 7.1 innings allowing 5 hits, 1 run (earned), and no walks with 4 strikeouts.
RHP Alex McRae (2-4) went the first 6 innings for the Marauders, giving up 6 hits, 2 runs (both earned), no walks and 5 strikeouts.
