There is a new crowd gathering in Siesta Key. Somewhat rowdy, but still confined, you may notice this strange specimen venturing into Beach Club Siesta Key on Saturday nights. They are the crazed fans of Mighty Mongo, more commonly known as Mongolians. Follow them.

Mighty Mongo, winner of six different ”Battle of the Bands“ competitions, played at Warped Tour in Summer 2010, and has just released their very first album this year, ”Let’s Make Serious Life Decisions.“

Their four-member band consists of Lyndsay Vitola, lead vocals and keytar, Alex Card, lead vocals and bass,  Scotty Chmura leading drums and percussion, and Anthony Isoldi, lead guitar. One of the best sounding (and sometimes joked as best looking) bands in the area, they describe their music as ”runk,“ which is a combination of reggae and punk.

Playing both original music and covers, they won’t leave anyone in the crowd unmoved. ”We just want to have fun,“ says Vitola. And they want you to have fun too.

Their new CD, ”Let’s Make Serious Life Decisions,“ sells for $10. The music is also available for download on ITunes. They recorded with the nationally known recording studio in Tampa, Morrisound Recording.

Having never recorded more than a few tracks for demos, this record is a big deal for the Mongos. The band earned enough money to fund the whole album themselves.

”We didn’t have to dip into our own pockets at all,“ says Isoldi.

”That’s the thing that we’re most proud of, that we were able to do it on our own at a nationally known studio,“ adds Vitola.

The most unique song on the new album is track 11, ”Moonshine.“ They were all in the room recording at the same time, and just started jamming. The end result - it’s totally different than any other Mongo song. It is one of Chmura’s favorites. ”It’s the only song we literally created in the studio,“ says Chmura. All of the other songs were written and practiced prior to the recording.

The band has been jamming together since October of 2009 and has played over 400 shows. Voted the hardest working band in the bay, they coin themselves as ”a four-piece force of awesomeness out of St. Petersburg, Florida.“

Influenced by Sublime, No Doubt, Green Day, Led Zeppelin, The Presidents of The United States of America, Bob Marley, Dave Brubeck, The Wiggles and many others, they bring a fresh, new beat to the music scene.

Be sure to catch Mighty Mongo Saturday nights at Beach Club Siesta Key, starting at 10 p.m.

”We’re all about having fun, and try to make sure our original music reflects that. What sets us apart are our energetic and fresh tunes along with our unwavering ambition. And Anthony’s smoldering good looks,“
