Movers and Shakers: Mitchell McKnight Joins Halfacre Construction Company

SARASOTA – Halfacre Construction Company (HalfacreConstruction.com), the area's oldest, most established, locally owned and operated private commercial construction company, recently welcomed Mitchell McKnight, PE to its team as the director of public infrastructure.

McKnight brings almost 40 years of experience to Halfacre Construction Company as a licensed professional engineer. In his new role, he is responsible for leading and promoting the construction management process for public infrastructure to various public entities, managing staff members, investigating capital improvement programs and providing quality control for plans and specifications.

McKnight has held dual corporate management roles for public infrastructure and transportation services. His expertise includes managing the planning, design and construction of various projects, including roadway and drainage, site development, water and wastewater collection and treatment facilities. He has extensive experience with local, state and federal governmental and regulatory agencies.

Most recently, McKnight served as the board chairman for The Circus Arts Conservatory and volunteered his time to a number of organizations. Prior to that, he worked Boyle Engineering and Wilson Miller, a company acquired by Stantec.

McKnight’s notable project contributions include the Siesta Key Village beautification, Lemon Avenue street and road improvements, Bahia Vista flood plain reclamation, Golden Gate Pointe streetscape, Celery Fields stormwater facility, Venice Avenue and Jacaranda Boulevard roundabouts, US 301 roadway widening, State Road 64 widening and improvements, Toledo Blade Boulevard widening design, University Parkway and I-75 interchange improvements, Honore Avenue improvements and Central Sarasota Parkway and I-75 Interchange study and final design.

McKnight received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from North Carolina State University. He is designated as a professional engineer in Florida, Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky.
