Movers and Shakers Movers and Shakers: Center For Sight Chosen by World's Top Airshow Pilot Patty Wagstaff for Vision-Restoring Surgery

Posted

SARASOTA — Center For Sight, one of the leading eye care practices in the United States, is proud to be the provider of sight-restoring Laser Cataract Surgery for internationally celebrated aviator Patty Wagstaff. The procedure was performed at the Center For Sight Sarasota location by William J. Lahners, M.D., F.A.C.S., Medical Director and Director of Laser Vision Services at Center For Sight.

“Performance flights involve very high speeds mixed with a number of aerobatic maneuvers, and my progressive glasses started to get in the way,” said Wagstaff. “Sight is used 99.9 percent of the time to keep focused on the ground, and I must be able to see clearly to ensure everything is managed perfectly. That’s why I chose to correct my vision with Laser Cataract Surgery by Dr. Lahners.”

Recognized as one of the world’s top airshow pilots, Wagstaff is a six-time recipient of the "First Lady of Aerobatics" Betty Skelton Award, an inductee of both the National Aviation Hall of Fame and the International Aerospace Hall of Fame, and is the first woman to ever win the title of U.S. National Aerobatic Champion – which she achieved three times. Wagstaff recently earned the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Air Force Association.

Having received many awards for her flying, she is particularly proud of receiving the Airshow industry's most prestigious award, the "Sword of Excellence," and the "Bill Barber Award for Showmanship." In March 1994 her airplane, the Goodrich Extra 260, went on display in the Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum in Washington, DC.

Wagstaff continues to demonstrate her exceptional talents before millions of people each year and teaches others at the “Patty Wagstaff Aerobatic School” in St. Augustine, Florida. She also flies as a stunt pilot for major motion picture and television projects, and has even turned her flying skills to fighting fires in California.

A Jacksonville, Florida, resident, Wagstaff traveled to Sarasota specifically for Laser Cataract Surgery with Dr. Lahners at Center For Sight. “Part of what has made my experience so wonderful is the professionalism and friendliness of Dr. Lahners and his staff,” said Wagstaff. “I am just amazed by the results of my cataract surgery. It is unbelievable how well I can see now, and how clear and bright everything looks. I can’t wait to start flying acrobatics again – without glasses!”
