BRADENTON — J.E. Charlotte Construction Corp., a commercial construction company that offers a full range of construction management services, recently began the facelift on an existing 10,000-square-foot building for the Humane Society of Manatee County.

Located at 2415 14th St. W. in Bradenton, J.E. Charlotte Construction Corp. is completely gutting and renovating the interior and exterior of the standing building – a former Salvation Army retail store. The updated building, the third on campus of the nonprofit, will replace its current spay and neuter clinic while adding a pet wellness center and training room. The renovated building will allow the nonprofit to double its spay and neuter capacity to better serve the community and pet owners looking for affordable healthcare for their dogs and cats.
The Humane Society of Manatee County, a nonprofit founded in 1971, houses its adoptable cats in a single-story building while the two-story building currently holds the administrative offices, adoptable dogs and the soon-to-be-moved clinic. The $830,000 project has an estimated completion date of July 2015.
“J.E. Charlotte Construction’s reputation in the community, specifically their remodel of an old bowling alley into a modern pet boarding facility, was stellar,” said Amy Van Dell, executive director of The Humane Society of Manatee County. “Through this entire process J.E. Charlotte Construction has kept us informed, and once the permits were approved, the work was started in a timely manner. It continues to be on schedule, and we are pleased with the progress. Jesse Richards, the project supervisor, communicates with us on regular basis and is on site every day. We are very pleased with the service we have received and are anxious to open our new facility, which is scheduled to open on time and on budget.”
With an obligation to its donors and supporters, the nonprofit wanted to be good stewards of the donations and use them in a prudent manner, Van Dell also stated. The Humane Society of Manatee County put the project out for bid and thoroughly interviewed three firms before selecting J.E. Charlotte Construction.
The Humane Society of Manatee County drew on J.E. Charlotte Construction Corp.’s expertise in building high-quality pet facilities. The company recently broke ground on the third location of Bayside Pet Resort & Spa. Bacon Group Architecture is the architect on the project.
