Nancy Carol Washburn, 90, of Bradenton, FL, died peacefully on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at Tidewell Hospice House in Bradenton, FL, surrounded by her children.

She was born October 12, 1932, in Covington, KY where she graduated from Lloyd High School class of 1950. She attended Asbury College in Wilmore, KY where she studied to be a teacher. She was unable to complete her degree due to the death of her father but used her education to become a wonderful kindergarten teacher. She opened a kindergarten in her home in Union, KY, teaching both of her daughters and most of the neighborhood children over the span of 11 years. When she moved to Bradenton, she worked in the Manatee County School System as a Paraprofessional in kindergarten and Pre-K.

Upon her retirement, she volunteered at her grandchildren's school. She met and married Donald Washburn in 1958 and enjoyed 58 years together. They enjoyed taking cruises, attending Southern Gospel concerts and going to the mountains. She loved black Friday shopping and Christmas. Her favorite times included Christmas Eve celebrations with all of her family and birthday celebrations. After her husband's death, she became part of a widows group where she met a group of friends who became a second family to her. They loved going out on Friday nights and then playing cards or games in each other's homes. She was blessed to remain independent up until just prior to her death and did not want to tell her children what time she was getting home after a night with the girls. She was known for her vivacious laugh and smile.

She was pre-deceased by her parents, Alma and Lawrence Edrich; sisters, Dorothy, Catherine and Helen and brother, Jimmy. She is survived by her children, Doug (Beth) Washburn of Bradenton, FL, Debbie (Mark) Stively of Screven, GA, and Diane (Marc) Fraietta of Palmetto, FL; grandchildren, Jeremy Stively of Jesup, GA, Matt (Emilee) Stively of Screven, GA, Nicole Washburn and Michelle Washburn of Bradenton, FL, Alex Fraietta of Palmetto, FL; great-granddaughter, Mary Layne Stively of Screven, GA and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at 9:30 AM and then a Celebration of Life will follow at 10:30 AM, Saturday, Nov. 12, 2022, at Bayside Community Church (Westside Campus) in Bradenton, FL. A reception will follow the service. Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 43rd Street Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
