National Government Buchanan Amended Financial Disclosures Prior to Ethics Investigation Launch

Posted

BRADENTON – The Sarasota Herald-Tribune has reported that Congressman Vern Buchanan (R- Fla. 13) filed reports to amend four years of required financial disclosures, just weeks before the House Ethics Committee launched an investigation.

The article lists a number of reporting failures including 16 positions that he had failed to fully report to Congress as required by House rules. It quotes a Washington watchdog group official as saying such actions are typical by someone ”flagged“ by the Ethics Committee who is being asked to clarify his role with various companies and organizations.

The Committee announced it had been investigating a matter involving the Congressman on December 22. Both staffers for the committee and Buchanan refused to comment for the story, though it did report that a committee staffer said that the matter was not related to the other two federal investigations the embattled legislator was involved in.
