WASHINGTON — U.S. House Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-Longboat Key) was appointed to the U.S. House Budget Committee this week. Buchanan says that his motivation for obtaining his new position was to improve the economy and shrink the federal deficit.
The Budget Committee is charged with creating each year's federal budget, and is currently debating next year's budget. Rep. Tom Price, R-GA, currently chairs the committee.
In a statement, Buchanan said, "As a businessman for over 30 years, I know what it means to balance a budget and meet a payroll. I look forward to joining Chairman Price and the other committee members as we work to grow the economy, create jobs, and reduce the massive federal deficit."
