National Government House Votes to Hold Attorney General Eric Holder in Contempt

Posted

BRADENTON – The House of Representatives voted to hold United States Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress on Thursday, for failing to turn over internal Justice Department documents in response to a subpoena from the House Oversight Committee, related to Operation Fast and Furious. It is the first time in history that Congress has found a sitting member of a President’s cabinet in contempt.

Many Democrats, accusing Republicans of holding the vote for political purposes, walked out of the chamber in protest without voting. The vote count was 255-67. The NRA had sent a letter to each member of Congress recommending that they vote in favor of finding the AG in contempt, contending that the gunwalking operations were designed to benefit pro-gun control policies, though no evidence of those claims were presented.
