Newly Elected Officials Sworn in This Week; School Board to Elect New Chair Tonight

BRADENTON — Local governments are swearing in newly-elected and re-elected officials this week. Tonight's Manatee County School Board meeting will include board reorganization, in which new chairs and vice chairs are elected.

Board Chairwoman Julie Aranibar was defeated in the Nov. 4 election. Her replacement, former MTI Director Mary Cantrell, will be sworn in, along with Charlie Kennedy and returning member Karen Carpenter, who won in August.

The Manatee County Commission will swear in new District 2 Commissioner Charles Smith and re-elected Commissioners Robin DiSabatino (District 4) and Carol Whitmore (District 6) at the start of today's meeting, and elect a new chair at a later date.

Palmetto City Commissioners were sworn in last night, while re-elected Bradenton City Council member Patrick Roff will be sworn in at Wednesday's meeting.
