James H.
Dowd, 85, of Bradenton. Family and friends are mourning the passing of James H.
Dowd on January 9, 2015.
Jim was born on October 19, 1930 in Pittsburgh, PA but
spent his youth in Woodside, Queens, New York. It is here he met and fell in
love with his bride of sixty‐three years, Ann Mullen.
Jim made his career of 30
years at IBM, working in various positions, including the World Trade Division,
where his easy, Irish, gift of gab allowed him to make numerous friends from
Brazil to Japan. Jim and Ann raised three children Jim Jr., Catherine and Mary
in Matawan NJ and Danbury, CT, providing them with a "Wonder Years“ childhood,
enjoying summers at Long Beach Island with family and friends, some 60 plus
strong!
Jim and Ann were fortunate enough to spend over 30 years of retirement
in sunny Bradenton, FL where Jim continued to root on his beloved NY Giants,
became a proud member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, fourth degree Knight
of Columbus and faithful volunteer at Tidewell Hospice.
We will all miss Jim,
an eternal optimist with his glass not half full, but overflowing. In Jim’s own
words from a scale of one to ten his life was a ten.
Besides his wife and three
children, Jim is survived by his son‐in‐law, Leonard "Dusty“ Martin; grandchildren,
Melissa Dowd, Devin and Keenan Martin; his sister, Eileen McCabe and numerous nephews
and nieces.
Memorial Services will be held at a later date. Brown & Sons
Funeral Homes & Crematory 26th Street Chapel is in charge.
