Relda Mae Curran Wilson, 96, Bradenton, FL was born in Homestead Park, PA, on May 2, 1919 to Anna Pearle and John Curran and passed away peacefully on Friday, October 30, 2015.
She attended Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA with study in Business Math. She was also an accomplished violinist and was medaled in rifle marksmanship. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Robert E. Wilson, and an infant son. She has been a resident of Bradenton since 1948.
The Wilsons lived in Holmes Beach on Anna Maria Island for 10 years to share their love for the beach with family and friends. They later moved to Village Green and then to the Inn at Freedom Village.
The Wilsons were active members of St. Joseph Parish, St. Bernard Parish and Saints Peter and Paul Parish. They were among the founding families of St. Joseph Catholic School, and Mrs. Wilson spearheaded the building drive for the current St. Joseph Church. She served as Parish Administrator for St. Joseph Parish Church and School for 20 years. She was active in the parents’ councils for St. Joseph School and Cardinal Mooney High School in Sarasota. She frequently volunteered on Grandparents Day at Anna Maria Elementary School. She served as President of the Diocese of St. Petersburg Council of Catholic Women and had a leadership role in the National Council of Catholic Women including a pilgrimage to Bogot‡, Columbia.
She is survived by her children: Patrick C. and Mona Wilson, Lake Worth, FL; Mary C. Wilson, Lawrenceville, GA; Timothy R. Wilson, Denton, TX; Michael and Janice Wilson, Little Rock, AR; Mary Ann Wilson Burch and Al Hostetler, Bradenton, FL; and Joseph Burch, Bradenton, FL; as well as nieces, Deborah Curran & Harry Saxe, Dublin, OH; Jennifer Curran & Jeff Wilson, Kennesaw, GA. They have eight grandchildren, Patrick C. Wilson, Jr. Loganville, GA; Robert J. Wilson, Snellville, GA; and Keri Beth Wilson Dlearo, Loganville, GA. Erin Wilson Baer, Lafayette, LA; Ryan M. Wilson, Jonesboro, AR; Julie R. Wilson, Rogers, AR; Anna Wilson Burch Herranz, Bradenton, FL; Adam Burch, Warsaw, NY. They have 14 great grandchildren, as well as 2 great nephews and 1 great niece.
Visitation will be on 6–8 pm Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2015 at Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 26th Street Chapel, 5624 26th Street West, Bradenton, FL 34207, Father Mark Heuberger will offer a brief service at 7:00pm. A Mass in Celebration of Mrs. Wilson’s Life will be offered at St. Joseph Catholic Church 10:00am Thursday, Nov. 5, 2015 celebrated by Father Mark Heuberger.
