Obituary: William Swartz

William "Pax“ Swartz was born in Telford, PA, November 26, 1920, and moved to Bradenton, Florida in 1949.

Pax was a WWII Veteran and served as a deep sea diver performing demolition and salvaging work in the Philippines. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star as a result of his commendable service. Using the skills he developed during the war, Pax founded the Search and Rescue Diving Unit, in Telford, PA, in June, 1947. It is still an active unit.

Pax began working at age 14, and spent the majority of his career as an auto body specialist. These skills and talents led to many of his hobbies during his life. Over his lifetime, Pax was a Ham Radio Operator, had his pilot license, was a race car driver, boat owner, and a host of other interests.

Pax was very blessed in that he had two remarkable marriages; with two wonderful spouses who loved him deeply, as well as family who loved him very much. He was predeceased by his first wife, Ada Swartz in 1976. He is survived by Ellen Doris Swartz, to whom he was married for 38 years. Pax leaves behind daughters, Marlene (John) Silver, Bradenton; Bobbi Jo (Gene) Shenberg, Delray Beach; stepson, Randy (Shirley) Wilson, Bradenton; step-daughter, Gail Wilson (Bobby) Corlin, Bradenton; 11 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Pax went to be with the Lord on September 24, 2015; he was 94 years young. He was devoted to his family, and put their needs above his own his entire life.

Visitation 10-11AM Saturday, October 3, 2015 with Services to follow at 11AM at Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 26th Street Chapel, 5624 26th Street West, Bradenton, FL 34207. Burial will follow the Services at Skyway Memorial Gardens, 5200 US-19, Palmetto, FL 34221.
