Palmetto City Commission Agenda Results: September 28, 2015

PALMETTO At Monday's City Commission meeting, members adopted Palmetto's final millage and budget for FY 2016 that begins on October 1, 2015. In other business, the city was awarded a $108,000 historical preservation grant.

1. CITY COMMISSION AGENDA APPROVAL

Action Request: Motion to approve the September 28, 2015 Agenda. -- Approved, Unanimous

2. PUBLIC COMMENT

Public Comment: Comments shall be limited to two minutes. Commission does not generally take action on any matter raised during these public comments, but may direct the matter to be placed on the agenda of a future meeting, if appropriate.

Open the public hearing to discuss the final millage rate and final FY 2016 budget.

  • Discuss the percentage increase/decrease in proposed final millage over rolled back rate
  • Discuss the specific purposes for which ad valorem revenues are being increased/decreased

7. MAYOR’S REPORT -- Mayor Shirley Grover Bryant said the City of Palmetto won a Historical Preservation Grant in the amount of $108,000. Elliott Falcione said he wanted someone from Palmetto to sit on the Art Council Board, and the Mayor said Sunday she went to St. Andrews for their 122 year anniversary. Mayor Bryant brought cookies compliments of Popi's restaurant, for the Manatee School of the Arts students who were being recognized for their tireless volunteer work taking care of parks in Palmetto. The Mayor said, "These students have by far exceeded in the work they first set out to do."

The Mayor presented the students with the Public Service Keep Manatee Beautiful Award to the Action Team of Manatee School of the Arts.

8. COMMISSIONERS’ COMMENTS

-- Williams said next year he would like to give the Manasota League a list of legislative priorities from the commission. Williams said, "We should have a workshop on issues we support."

-- Cornwell asked Jeff Burton (CRA Director) if he could get the status on the theatre some time soon.
