Parrish Fire District: Seat 3

A simple look at the audit report:

for the Parrish Fire District should be the only reason that you need to change the management at the Parrish Fire District (The District).

According to the last audit, the District had 117% of the total funds in reserve. That is over twice the amount needed for the entire year including major purchases. That does not include the $250,000 spent on a new fire truck a couple of years ago. (Any guesses how many trucks the District has?)

The District paid in cash for that truck, as opposed to using historically low interest rates and passing on the debt to the new residents who are causing the need for more fire trucks.

And it was an impulse buy since it was not in the budget that was presented at the public hearing the previous October. Which by the way, is the only time that Commissioner Webb and his friends allow the public to speak.

This prohibition of speech at the regular meetings was championed by the other guy running for this seat, Kevin Webb: who later commented on the record, that “the meetings were a lot better now.”

So the choice is clear! I plan to refund 107% of the slush fund and retain only 10% over the budget, as is done by all other fire districts in Manatee County, open up the meetings to the public, and spend more than 10 minutes on the business of the District each month.
