Patricia "Patti" Smithley, a cherished soul whose life journey began on August 24, 1953, in Indianapolis, Indiana, was called to her eternal home with the Lord on June 25, 2025, in Bradenton, Florida. Patti, a beacon of strength, love, and resilience, left this world after a long battle with pancreatic cancer, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering faith and devotion to her family, friends, and community.
Patti's life was a testament to the power of faith, love, and dedication. She was united in holy matrimony to her loving husband, Rodney, with whom she shared the joy of raising their son, Phillip Smithley. Although they endured the heart-wrenching loss of their daughter, Angel, Patti's spirit remained resilient. She found comfort and joy in the laughter and embrace of her grandchildren-Zack, Zena, and Natalie Hillabrand-as well as her cherished great-grandchildren, Zophia Hillabrand, Heaven, and Soul Velazquez.
Her siblings-Greta Zeralsky, Sandra Manuel, and brother Norman Terry-along with her loving cousin, Kay Bass, stood by her through every season of life, sharing in her triumphs and supporting her through challenges. Patti's family and grandchildren were the cornerstone of her existence, and her love for them was as boundless as the heavens.
Patti's educational journey culminated in the achievement of her high school diploma, but her thirst for learning never ceased. She found her calling in serving the community through various roles, including Property Appraiser of Manatee County, Supervisor of Elections, and a dedicated worker within the local State Attorney's office. Her compassion and nurturing spirit also led her to become a caregiver, a role in which she touched many lives with her kindness and empathy.
As a devout Christian, Patti's faith illuminated her path and provided solace to those around her. She lived by the words of Scripture, often reminding others, "We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us." Her motivational words and actions inspired all who were blessed to cross her path, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts.
Patti's zest for life was evident in her hobbies. She adored shopping, finding joy in the simple pleasure of a great find. Her culinary skills brought warmth to family gatherings, where her dishes were not just food, but expressions of love. Patti and Rodney shared a passion for car shows, proudly showcasing their prized Mopar restoration, which was recognized as one of the best in the country. Together, they reveled in the camaraderie and admiration of fellow car enthusiasts.
As we celebrate Patti's life, we remember her not for the final chapter marked by illness, but for the countless moments of joy, guidance, and unwavering support she provided. Her life was a journey of purpose and impact-a narrative of a woman who, through her actions, embodied the essence of Christian love and service.
Let us hold dear the memory of Patricia "Patti" Smithley, a woman of valor whose spirit will continue to guide and uplift us. Her legacy is etched in the lives she touched, and her story serves as a reminder that our time on earth is precious-and that we, too, can leave a mark as profound as the one Patti left on our world. As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, we take comfort in knowing that she rests in the loving arms of our Creator, reunited with her daughter, Angel, and watching over us with the same tenderness she embodied in life.
