Photo Gallery: Wall Street Protests Enter 7th Day

Posted

Today, Protesters begin the 6th day of ”Occupy Wall Street,“ a mass protest on Zuccotti Park to demonstrate discontent with the American and international banking/finance system that they feel has contributed greatly to the inequality in our society. The coalition of activist groups such as Code Pink and Anonymous, joined by non-affiliated protestors from around the country, plan to set up camp indefinitely to call attention to their cause.

On Wednesday codepink.org reported that five of the protestors were violently arrested. Overall, the media coverage of the event has been relatively thin, much like the recent tar sands oil pipeline protests outside of the White House where more than 1,000 Americans were arrested earlier this month. The protests have atttracted international media, however, including this piece in The Guradian, a major U.K.-based daily.

Initially, it was discovered that yahoo.com had been blocking emails that contained the protest group's website. It has issued a statement apologizing, claiming that spam filters were responsible for the censorship. Twitter also reportedly stripped out the occupywallstreet hashtag.

Below are photos that were taken by David Shankbone and released to the public domain.
