When Superintendent Tim McGonegal and candidate Bob Gause came to the Tea Party Manatee meeting not long ago, it was the second time I had seen them together and I had to wonder if they are running as dual candidates joined together at the hip. I wondered if Mr. McGonegal was running Mr. Gause’s campaign and using all of the district’s resources (really taxpayer’s money) to get Mr. Gause re-elected.
Superintendent Tim McGonegal wasn’t able to speak that night due to our agenda, but we did allow candidate Bob Gause two minutes just like most politicians. Mr. Gause may have misunderstood the rules as he keep on talking until someone stopped him. I’m puzzled as to why they would even attend the meeting with the trashing of our organization by the school district’s Public Relations Office in the media and in their schools.
Maybe the Superintendent realized that Mr. Gause needed help in his race. Is it possible Mr. Gause might not be that well informed about what is going on in the district and could use some back up support by Mr. McGonegal? Remember this district has a chance to make some changes with new school board members. Now it’s up to the Manatee to decide - do we keep the some old ways or are we going to do the right thing for our students and their teachers? The ball is now in the voters' court.
