BRADENTON – This summer break, one of the things that my son Sullivan and I are doing is to volunteer at the Manatee County Animal Services Center, walking the dogs and hopefully getting a few adopted. Animals services' responsibilities include the apprehension and impoundment of stray and loose dogs and cats, including the sick and injured.

Each week, the Bradenton Times features a homeless animal being cared for by Manatee County Animal Services, in the hope of finding them a good home where they can bring joy to the life of a local resident or family. Meet Spot, a loveable Lab mix with an energetic and friendly temperament.

Yes, I know we've already profiled Spot. But before my son and I left on vacation, we decided to go and shoot two, so we would have a pet to feature the week we were off. We were both disappointed to see that while our other two featured pets have been adopted, Spot was still there wagging his tale. In fact, he's been there since March and his inability to find a home is inexplicable, even to staff. He's a beautiful, well-behaved pet that just loves people.

I can only think that he's still there, because fate has not put his lucky, meant-to-be owner in his path. If you're thinking about a pet, I personally promise that Spot is the perfect pick. Click here for information on how to adopt Spot or any of the other animals at the shelter.
