Politics Anti-Gaming Ad Featuring Mayor Poston Hits Heavy Rotation

Posted

BRADENTON — A Political Action Committee's commercial warning that expanding gambling in Florida could have a negative effect on its cities features four Florida Mayors, including Bradenton's Wayne Poston. The ad went into heavy rotation this week.

Poston is joined in the ad by Miami Beach's Philip Levine, Orlando's Buddy Dyer, and Miami's Tomas Regalado.

The PAC, Protecting Florida's Future, is based in Aventura and chaired by former Miami Congressman Juan-Carlos Planas.

One of the bills in the Florida legislature opposed by the PAC would remove the requirement for greyhound racing tracks to continue to operate if the establishment wishes to expand its other games. The other would allow for the construction of two new major south Florida casinos.

In the ad, Poston opposes expansion because he says it would cannibalize businesses and jobs, and strain law enforcement. Orlando Mayor Dyer says that more gambling would "threaten Florida's family-friendly image." He says, "We need solutions that don't make us the next Atlantic City."

The 2015 Florida Legislative Session ends this Friday.
