BRADENTON – A solid majority of Florida's likely Democratic primary voters plan to support Hillary Clinton as their party's nominee, according to a poll released Friday by Quinnipiac University.
The poll shows Clinton–who polled at 59 percent support among Sunshine State Dems–with a 26-point lead over Sen. Bernie Sanders, who polled at 33 percent.
Peter A. Brown, Quinnipiac University Poll's assistant director, called attention to Clinton's 3-1 lead over Sanders in the state's female demographic in a statement.
"This has been a turbulent political year, but the Florida Democratic primary looks like a blow-out. With her 26-point lead over Sen. Bernie Sanders, Secretary Hillary Clinton would have to undergo a political meltdown of historic proportions to lose this contest," said Brown.
Results from the poll include:
- Sanders getting 48 percent of Dem primary voters whose biggest voting priority is someone who they feel cares about their needs and issues; Clinton received 42 percent.
- Among voters who prioritize an honest and trustworthy candidate, Sanders received 49 percent, while Clinton received 37 percent.
- For experience-focused voters, Clinton led 87 - 9.
- For Dems wanting someone who they think most shares their values, Clinton received 53 percent while Sanders received 44 percent.
- Clinton also received 48 percent support among polled voters who prioritize the economy and jobs; Sanders received 42 percent.
- From healthcare-focused voters, Clinton received 59 percent while Sanders received 30 percent.
