MANATEE- Port Manatee will receive a $9 million grant from the Federal Department of Transportation’s TIGER II program for various transportation infrastructure related projects. Port CFO Bob Armstrong announced the grant among a total of $22 million in funds awarded the Port Authority in 2010 at Thursday’s meeting in Palmetto.
TIGER (Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery) II is the second phase of the original $1.5 billion TIGER program which was part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The program’s objective is to ensure funding is made rapidly available for transportation infrastructure projects.
The
Port Authority was one of just 75 capital construction and planning projects in the country that received TIGER II funding out of more than 1000 applications. Only sixteen percent of the funding went to port projects.
The $9 million grant will be used for South Port improvements. There is no requirement for the port to match the funds.
