BRADENTON — The Marauders (30-34) rallied in the sixth inning, taking a 3-2 lead on SS Chris Diaz’s two-run double down the third base line and held on to defeat Tampa (30-34) by that margin on Monday night at McKechnie Field.
The Yankees took an early lead on a solo home run in the second by Ericson Leonora off LHP Steven Brault. Brault logged 5 2/3 innings and matched his season high with six strikeouts.
3B Wyatt Mathisen brought the Marauders even with an RBI hit in the fourth. The Yankees answered in the top of the fifth on an RBI base hit from Angelo Gumbs to go back on top 2-1.
RHP Felipe Gonzalez (W, 3-4) tossed 1 1/3 innings with allowing a run to earn the win. RHP Clario Perez tossed two innings for the save. He struck out the side in the ninth.
The game began after a 46 minute delay at 7:16 p.m. under cloudy skies, 75 degrees, and wind blowing 6 mph from left to right.
The Yankees are 3-9 over their last 12 trips to McKechnie Field dating back to 2012. Michael Fransoso notched a double for his first extra-base hit of the season.
