PORT CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte Stone Crabs (45-23) defeated the Marauders (30-28) 2-0 in a rain shortened game on Monday night at Charlotte Sports Park. The game entered a delay just before the first pitch of the bottom of the fifth inning was to be delivered and was subsequently called after a 33 minute delay.
Charlotte scored both of their runs against RHP Tyler Eppler (L, 0-1) in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Eppler set down the first 10 Stone Crabs in order before rehabbing Tampa Bay Rays infielder Tim Beckham poked a single to center field. Willy Adames followed with an RBI triple to plate the first run of the game. Jake Bauers followed with an RBI-single to right past the drawn in infield. Eppler struck out three and did not walk a batter.
Kyle McKenzie (W, 5-2) pitched the fifth inning for the Stone Crabs to earn the win in relief of Taylor Guerrieri.
The game began at 7:03 p.m. under partly cloudy skies, 93 degrees, and wind blowing 6 mph from left to right. This is the first game the Marauders have had shortened, postponed, or suspended this season. Edwin Espinal was named Florida State League Player of the Week for June 15-22.
Tonight, the Marauders face the Stone Crabs at Charlotte Sports Park in game two of the series at 7:00 p.m. LHP Jayson Aquino will be on the mound against RHP Buddy Borden. Live streaming audio will be available online at www.BradentonMarauders.com and via the TuneIn App.
