BRADENTON — The Marauders (8-8, 41-46) fell for the fifth straight game, falling 3-2 to the Tortugas on Saturday night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. RHP Frank Duncan (L, 5-5) struck out seven over six innings.
Sebastian Elizalde’s home run in the third staked the Tortugas to a 2-0 lead. LHP Nick Routt (W, 3-1) kept the Marauders to just one run over six innings to earn the win.
2B Chris Diaz got Bradenton on the board with a two-out RBI single in the fifth inning off Routt, plating DH Wes Freeman. Bradenton’s second run came on 3B Wyatt Mathisen’s sacrifice fly in the ninth to cut the lead to 3-2.
The game began at 7:05 p.m. under partly cloudy skies, 90 degrees, and wind blowing 3 mph out to left field. Frank Duncan now has 71 strikeouts against just 12 walks this season. Austin Meadows has 10 multi-hit games in his last 15 games.
Today, the Marauders face Daytona in the third game of the series at Jackie Robinson Ballpark; the first pitch is scheduled for 5:35 p.m. RHP Tyler Eppler will be on the mound for the Marauders while RHP Jackson Stephens will toe the rubber for Daytona.
