BRADENTON — First baseman Edwin Espinal has been named the Florida State League Player of the Week for the week of June 15-June 21. Espinal earned the recognition with three straight multi-hit games against the Tampa Yankees last week.
Espinal played in three (3) games and had nine (9) hits in 12 at-bats for a .750 batting average. He went 4-for-4 on Tuesday for his first four-hit game of the season. He had a pair of doubles, scored a run, collected three (3) RBIs and stole his first base of the season. His final hit of the week was a two-out RBI single in the ninth inning on Thursday night. A native of Mao Valverde, Dominican Republic, Espinal is 21 years old and in his fourth season of professional baseball.
Espinal is the first Marauder to earn Player of the Week recognition in 2015. He is batting .269 this season with two (2) home runs and 29 RBIs. Right-handed pitcher Clario Perez earned Pitcher of the Week Honors.
